Unfortunately there are a number of different types of eating disorders that plague the youth of America.
Signs that can indicate the presence of an eating disorder can include rapid weight fluctuations, excessive physical activity, drastic changes in physical shape, peculiar behaviors around food, clear feelings of discontent with body shape and size. Four types of eating disorders that are common amongst teenagers are anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge eating disorder, and body dysmorphic disorder. The internal and external pressures that a young person endures throughout adolescence are vast and many of the warning signs related to eating disorders may present themselves at various times. Independently, some of the signs may seem insignificant, but it is essential to be cautious. If there is any concern that your teen may be struggling with an eating disorder, it is best get help.
We focus on identifying and treating the core issues that impact teens and their families. Instead of using treatment modalities that focus on altering behaviors through punitive approaches we search for, identify and treat the underlying mental or emotional health issues. We do this by utilizing a variety of techniques including; individual therapy, group therapy, educational groups, schooling, social activities, family therapy and many others. By doing so, we believe that we can help young people and their families make positive changes that they can both internalize and incorporate back into their lives at home.
Our daughter went to PTT and had a great experience. Their nurturing, compassionate and holistic approach creates an ideal environment for the kids to open up, feel valued and bond with each other as well as the staff. The therapists spend the days at the facility so the kids get to know them as human beings which really helped with trust and facilitating communication. Jeremy will hold your hand every step of the way and be there for you as a resource even after discharge. They plan wonderful outings for the kids, spend lots of time at the beach and bookstores and may even had a trapeze lesson. Wonderful therapists and staff who really care. Highly recommend. *****
I can not say enough good things about PTT. They are the perfect example of what adolescent treatment should be. From the first moment to the last they are supportive, kind and empathetic. There is so much communication from PTT during the stay that it provides so much comfort to parents. They engage the whole family in treatment to really ensure success of the teen. They also set health boundaries and are honest about expectations. We did not have a negative experience with anyone involved in the process.
If you are a parent or someone looking for support for a teenager with mental health issues you should definitely reach out to PTT. As a parent I can tell you that the stress you are feeling right now will be relieved the moment you talk to them.
I'm so thankful that a place like PTT exists and it gives me hope that we can help teens in need to have a better life.
The team at PTT helped everyone in the family during a very difficult time. Jeremy has created an amazing, holistic program that treats each client as an individual. His team of staff are caring, kind, intelligent people who are there to help and support your teen through the process. I would highly recommend PTT to any family who are at the point where they feel their teen needs more support and guidance than they can provide at home.
Thank God for PTT! The entire staff and program are professional, caring, involved, and effective. Our family cannot recommend PTT more. It's not hyperbole to say they saved our daughter. ❤️
I LOVE PTT. The entire staff is amazing (like seriously incredible). Kathie and Jeremy are so nice, Dr. Kimn was so helpful, all the therapists made me feel safe and important. The CA’s were so fun but were also always there to talk when I needed it. The teacher was so nice and on top of things so I actually ended up getting ahead in school. The cleaning staff was amazing and so thoughtful. Cyril’s cooking was soooo yummy. We had “house meetings” so the staff would really take into consideration the needs and likes/dislikes of the clients so we always felt heard. The groups we did were really fun and diverse. The outings are fun. The grounds are so pretty. Going into a house with a bunch of random kids was intimidating at first but at the end of the day the environment at PTT made it easy for us all to connect and I have made some really good friends whilst being at PTT, it was really beneficial to know I had people going through something really similar to me. Most importantly PTT has changed my life. I was in a really bad place before PTT (depression, trouble with substances, family issues and more). PTT staff worked with me and my family to help me love life again and I’m very grateful for that. Also the dogs Gator and Yeti are adorable. PTT is honestly the best and I loved my time there and since being out of PTT for around 6 weeks I can confidently say I’m a different person for the better and I love life again. P.S if any of the staff see this I love and miss you guys!!! ZoKr <3
I’m not sure how I found PTT (there are so many programs out there, some good some terrible), but I am so grateful that I did. PTT staff provided our kid with incredibly comprehensive care that included family and parent therapy, which was crucial. Thanks to PTT, we are now in a place where recovery seems possible, even likely, for our kid. If you’re searching for help for your teen, it can’t hurt to give PTT a call. Jeremy, the program’s founder, is incredibly knowledgeable and can help you decide if it’s the right fit for your loved one.
I had two stays at PTT, they were both extremely helpful and helped me bounce back after some really rough spots in my life. If you are looking for a place to help with mental health this is definitely the place for you😊. All of the staff is really kind and supportive. As there are only 6 clients at a time everyone's experience is truly tailored to what they need at the time. I loved both of my stays and I recommend this facility to anyone who is struggling with mental health, addiction or eating disorders.
In my opinion, PTT is an outstanding facility. PTT was my daughter's third residential treatment facility and the only one so far to make a noticeable difference in her. Unlike other facilities we have been involved with, the program at PTT is much more involved. Also, the focus is not only on the individual person, but the family dynamic as well, to help ensure long-term benefits of the program. We were impressed with the entire staff at PTT and they worked with us on insurance issues we had. I could not be more happy with the facility and the outcome.
This place is 5 star, it literally saved our daughter.
When our daughter entered PTT she was in a deep depression and was extremely closed off, combative and suicidal. We tried several individual therapists and two different IOP groups unsuccessfully.
She was not able to do school, wasn’t motivated to shower and didn’t want to be around her friends. All she talked about was not wanting to live, and what was the point.
When she entered PTT she bonded with the other kids there immediately because she knew she was not alone in her struggle and could finally talk to kids her age who could relate to her feelings.
PTT provided well trained therapists and staff who really bond with your kids. They are very down to earth. The house is feels safe and cozy and the back yard is huge with a nice little fire pit that they are able to sit at and have group.
PTT provides many activities and they have a personal chef! Our daughter decided to go vegetarian during her stay there because they visited a farm and she held a chicken and fell in love with it. She then decided it was sad to eat chicken..but the chef was able to accommodate her for the rest of her stay and made her some fabulous tasting vegetarian meals.
She was able to start school again while there. The teacher was very on the ball and was in touch with daughter’s school to get things going. I think it took two days for our daughter to get back into it. It’s so helpful that there is a program/schedule to follow. Nobody is forced to follow along, but I think if they don’t, they feel left out.
Even during Covid, PTT was still able to take the kids out frequently to get ice cream or visit a local book store. It made things seem more normal during this state of craziness out there.
Our daughter loved the group therapy. There were several activities where her peers could chime in and I think that was helpful for her.
There was frequent contact with her 1:1 therapist, family groups and meetings for just my husband and I to get some therapy and feedback. It definitely was family inclusive.
Dr. Kim was very involved and thoroughly explained his thoughts and reasoning if he recommended medications. He never pushed his agenda. His recommendation for meds for our daughter helped her to cope. She is still on the same medication routine and it is definitely working. He knows what he is doing. And it was comforting to know, just by coincidence, that when we got home and talked to our daughter’s psychiatrist (whom we love) that he actually went to medical school with Dr. Kim.
We are so grateful and thankful to have found PTT. It was definitely the right choice. We have our kid back!!
They gave us candy sometimes so I liked it.
