AFTERCARE AND SUPPORT SERVICES
The work done in the Pacific Teen Treatment program does not stop for the teenager once he or she has reached its completion.
Every teenager will have nuanced needs throughout his or her treatment program, as well as following the ending of the treatment program itself. There are a number of ways young people can help to uphold the coping mechanisms, healing techniques, and useful information learned throughout one’s treatment program. Pacific Teen Treatment works with each adolescent and family to assure each teen is setting him or her up for continue success in his or her recovery, post treatment. Creating a proper aftercare plan, while providing extensive support services are fundamental components of our program.
Aftercare plans are an essential element to a young persons recovery process.
Each teenager’s aftercare plan will be based off of his or her individual needs. Pacific Teen Treatment, much like it creates tailored treatment plans for each of its teenagers, it also creates unique, individualized aftercare plans. Our therapeutic staff works hard with the young person to co-create a sustainable plan to help with the adolescent’s continued recovery.
Aftercare plans can be created with great detail, leaving little room for flexibility or they can be slightly more vague, allowing for more leeway. The mental health professional in addition to the teen will decide which method may work best for the individual. Aftercare plans often include follow-up therapy, fitting in regular exercise into one’s daily schedule, how and when to conduct daily check-ins with oneself, attendance of relevant support groups, and in some cases, the continuation of medication (including regular doctor visits to insure proper medication intake). Aftercare plans can go as far as including detailed healthy meal choices and selecting a regular and consistent bedtime hour.
All of the information, skills, and tools learned throughout a teen’s treatment program at Pacific Teen Treatment work to properly prepare the teenager for the outside world. Being a part of its creation, knowing, and understanding one’s aftercare plan can be empowering and motivating. Hence, it is essential to have a proper aftercare plan in place before the completion of the treatment program.
We work with each teenager’s family and local outpatient providers to insure a proper continuity of care.
Connecting our clients to local resources, such as various support groups, healthy activity options (i.e. fitness classes, meditation classes, volunteer opportunities…etc.), and other specialized professionals (i.e. nutritionists, psychiatrists, psychologists…etc.) is important for a young person’s transition out of the Pacific Teen Treatment residence. Our clients are here because they need to let go of the some of the habits and patterns that no longer behoove them, as they have become physically, mentally, and/ or emotionally harmful. We work hard during our program to help to adjust these behaviors, patterns, and habits, but the teen must continue the work after he or she leaves Pacific Teen Treatment.
All of the residents at Pacific Teen Treatment are bright, young individuals. Each have endured emotional struggles and learned to rely on negative coping skills to manage their emotions. Reinforcing the skills learned at Pacific Teen Treatment by following one’s aftercare plan and taking advantage of the various local support services allow the adolescent to continue on his or her path of recovery and live a healthy life.
