Admissions

Consultation:

An essential component of acquiring the proper treatment for a teenager is to find a program that best fits his or her specific needs. This can be a challenging undertaking for parents, as for many, this is traveling in unchartered waters. Parents are often dealing with a crisis that comes with a teen who needs treatment, while also having to simultaneously research treatment programs with which they are generally unfamiliar. Factors such as openness to travel, insurance coverage, finances and of course clinical approach all weigh into making a well-informed decision regarding treatment. Unfortunately, there are very few mental health residential programs throughout the country that are able to provide appropriate care. This is one of the reasons why at Pacific Teen Treatment we have clients that travel from all over the country to participate in our treatment program. We understand the weight of the decision that must be made and our staff at Pacific Teen Treatment is happy to answer any specific questions you may have regarding our program, whether clinical or logistical, as well as provide general information regarding our program’s treatment approach.

There is no right or wrong way to go about the selection process, as each situation is unique. We encourage families to do their research to find the best possible program for their family and are happy to help in any way we can. In terms of a consultation, the first call is typically with a parent but there are situations where a teenager or mental health professional will make the initial call. It is common for our admissions process to involve several conversations via phone, text messages and/ or emails depending on a parent’s method of communication preference. Our staff is available and happy to speak with parent, teenager and/ or any mental health professional that is working with the family (therapist, psychiatrist, educational consultant…etc.). If Pacific Teen Treatment for some reason is not a good fit, we have an extensive network and our staff will gladly provide referrals to help guide you to a different treatment program.

Insurance Verification:

All people interested in continuing with the admissions process should complete the Insurance Verification form . By filling out and submitting the insurance verification from you are giving our team authorization to call your insurance company on your behalf to confirm benefits and gain specific information regarding reimbursement rates, deductibles, out of pocket limits as well as any other pertinent information on your policy. The call that we would make on your behalf is not binding in any way, we are simply calling to confirm the benefits information of your insurance policy.

Pacific Teen Treatment is an out of network provider with all insurance companies. This means that there is a wide range of reimbursement rates that will depend on each individual’s insurance plan. Connecting directly with insurance companies allows our insurance team the ability to correctly clarify plan benefits for our families and help to accurately alleviate any confusion. Once insurance specifics are obtained and we are able to directly connect with your insurance provider, the family can expect to receive a call from one of our admissions specialists within 24 hours for further discussions.

Admissions Paperwork:

The admissions paperwork can be completed and submitted directly on your computer through the Admissions Paperwork  page. Alternatively, we are happy to email or fax a copy of the admissions paperwork, if you’d prefer. Should any questions arise, our team is available to provide guidance through completing the admissions forms and/ or reviewing the pertinent paperwork.

Date of Admission:

The date of admission can be set after a family has decided they would like to move forward with Pacific Teen Treatment and the admissions paperwork has been completed. The start date will depend on availability and the wait time can be anywhere from a few days to a few weeks, depending of various factors. Please note that Pacific Teen Treatment works on rolling admissions.

What to Expect After an Admission:

We understand and are sensitive to the fact that admitting a child into residential treatment is never easy. Parents will receive a phone call from one of our staff members within a few hours of admitting their child with an update on how the teen is adjusting. This also provides the parents an opportunity to ask and have answered any questions they may have. Additionally, in order to help ensure a smooth transition it is common for our staff to take this time to ask the parents and/ or family members various questions that have presented during the teen’s first hours at Pacific Teen Treatment. The initial 24-48 hours will include communication between the parents and many of our staff members, including the primary therapist, family therapist, psychiatrist, nurse, and/or teacher.

It is not uncommon for parents of children who require residential treatment to block out their own fears and anxieties in order to help their child. Once a child has been admitted into the capable hands of Pacific Teen Treatment, it can open up space, both emotional and literal, for a parent to focus on working through their own emotional challenges. Figuring out how to implement better self-care methods, and/ or working with a therapist can help a parent heal themselves, as well as integrate and exemplify healthy mental health practices into their lives, in turn being positive role models for their children.  Pacific Teen Treatment has dedicated staff available to support parents during this challenging time and can help find appropriate referrals that are local to the family.

We are aware of the fact that no two families are the same and have an excellent support staff that is available to help navigate the intricacies relevant to each respective situation. Please do not hesitate to reach out day or night with any questions regarding our program, the admissions process, and or any other questions that may arise. We look forward to connecting with you and are happy to help you and your family in any way we can.
